2015 DRAFT PLAYER PROFILE:

Cedric Ogbuehi, Texas A&M, 6-5, 305, 5.00, SR … The latest in what seems like a never-ending line of top-rated Aggie LTs as he follows in the footsteps of Jake Matthews, the 6^th player selected at the 2014 draft, who replaced Luke Joeckel, the 2^nd player taken the previous year; and like his predecessors, Ogbuehi ‘worked his way up the line’ starting at OG his first two years before switching to RT last year and LT this fall, although he actually has moved back to the right side as part of a reshuffling along the A&M front because of injuries; Ogbuehi, in fact, is the best athlete of the three as he’s very light on his feet with top-end lateral agility and the rare ability in an offensive lineman to accelerate when moving toward a target; also has good balance and flexibility and can bend comfortably at the knees; not huge at just over 300 pounds, but has long arms and good weight-room strength; accomplished run blocker isn’t a prototype road grader, but gets off the snap very quickly, keeps his pads low and his feet moving; can also get out and make a block in space; glides around the pocket in pass protection and easily cuts off the edge; also has strong hands and an effective punch, but doesn’t always get his arms extended and will allow opposing pass rushers to get into his chest; indeed, the main issue with Ogbuehi is that he really needs to improve his hand usage and technique; and while he has a very quick kick step off the snap he will drift too deep into the pocket at times and allow more penetration than necessary, although both the later issues are largely correctable with good coaching; has been relatively healthy over his career, but did miss three games in 2011 with an ankle injury and two more in 2013 with a groin issue;  generally thought of as a character player and a good student who has already graduated, but there have been whispers in the scouting community that his effort level in 2014 has been somewhat inconsistent.
