White,
West Virginia, 6-3, 210, 4.50, SR … No player
has done more for their draft status this year than White who has
rocketed from
a marginal late-round candidate prior to the start of the season to a
potential
top 10-15 prospect, although pro scouts still have questions about his
consistency and long speed; played two undistinguished years at a
junior college in
upstate New York before transferring to West Virginia where he had a
decent season
in 2013 catching 36 passes; really took off this year, though, starting
in the
season opener when he torched Alabama for 9 catches for 143 yards and
currently
ranks second in the NCAA in catches per game – he’s on pace to finish
the year
with 110 receptions - and third in receiving yards per game (121),
although his
production has dipped late in the season as opposing defenses have
rotated their
coverage his way; angular receiver with long arms and huge hands and
the
ability to pluck the ball out the air away from his body;  has better than average long speed and the
ability to beat press
coverage with his initial quickness; also uses hands and arms well to
create early
separation and tracks the ball well downfield, but still isn’t as much
of a
big-play threat as most of the other potential elite receiver
prospects;
indeed, appears to play more
quick than fast and is most comfortable working the underneath and
intermediate
zones; runs technically crisp routes and has a real burst coming out of
his
cuts; also very aggressive going after contested balls as he has can
really get
off the ground, has excellent hand-eye co-ordination, as well the body
control
to make adjustments when he’s in the air; durable
player, although he did miss the season opener
in 2013 with a foot injury. If you have comments or suggestions, e-mail the editor at clindsc555@rogers.com; the GBN can also be reached by phone at (613) 692-1088; or regular mail at 320 Shadehill Cres., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; K2J 0L6.
